I spent most of my day on virtual speaking engagements today. I get asked to speak often on leadership, entrepreneurship, women’s health, parenting, fashion + beauty, lifestyle, marketing, business topics + more.
The one that always gets me is when I’m asked how I manage to stay true to myself.
The reality is that it took me a while to step into that. But when I did, I did so knowing that despite my flawed humanity, the place I always stemmed from was intention -and that freedom is liberating.
I’ve been called crazy so many times I lost count, loud, obnoxious, bitchy, unprofessional. I was told I would never make it in my industry if I also chose to raise a family.
I’ve always refused to make excuses about why I couldn’t make a commitment because of my kids. On the contrary, I’ve brought them along to board rooms, photo shoots, press trips, speaking engagements, team meetings …just like my parents did with me.
What I took from that is what I’ve always said about having it all. You can, just not all at once.
Your children watching you lead multiple companies, is the best gift you can give them. They see that it is possible for them too.
If after wrangling all of that, 2 dogs, a home + a partner, you still manage to put on lashes + some lipstick, realize you’ve already won.
Can’t help but think of my mom who at her age is still giving her business all she has + more. What an example and legacy to live up to. My father too worked until his last breath.
This rant is for the working mother who looks at herself in the mirror and dreams of her dreams. Believe me: you can do it! And for the ones who doubt you, underestimate you, or criticize your choices, know that they’d be pursuing their dreams too if they weren’t buried in their own self-doubt and denying their true self.
I hope everyone in their lives has the opportunity to find what sets them on fire. Your life will never be the same. I know mine has never been since. Kids and all 😘 Happy Friday Chicas 💋
