Reflecting on Some Hard Truths

The human ego is the ugliest part of our humanity. We lift up those who only show us darkness, and put down the brave ones who show us the light.

We abandon those fighting for us to cheer behind those fighting against us. And, we only remember good people and God when it is convenient for us. We take them for granted because their doors are always open – only to chase after closed doors and personalities void of substance and truth.

What we see in the outer world is a reflection of what we see inside our inner world. Other people’s perception of you is a reflection of them; your response to them is an awareness of you.

Lesson: What you say about me, you’re really saying about yourself.

On PIX 11: 5 Holiday Themed Home Decor Ideas So Easy, You’ll Want to DIY

Home for the holidays? ‘Tis the Season to bring the holiday cheer. Whether you do with the kids or solo, dive into these DIY home decor ideas that are so easy, they’ll also serve as little reminders to step into the spirit of the season.

1. Flower vases with a Holiday upgrade.

We all have more flower vases than we need. Fill them with holiday colored ornaments of different shapes and sizes and voila, you have a beautiful, eye catching center piece in no time.

2. Candy Cane Themed Centerpieces.

Another beautiful way to bring the holiday cheer to your decor is with these easy to make centerpieces. Wrap your flower vase with candy canes, holding them together with ribbon. Once dinner is over guests can also take a cane as a treat.

3. Festive Candles.

Using candles you already have at home, simply wrap holiday themed ribbon around it and finish with a bow. The candle’s glow combined with the holiday themed ribbon creates a beautiful eye catching focal point.

4. Deck the Walls or Halls.

1. Holiday Card Display. Wall/hallway decor is a simple yet beautiful way to create a festive ambience. This is also a great way to display your holiday cards. Take an old  frame or piece of wood and wrap with yarn. You can then hang cards as you receive them with clothespins. You can hang the frame on a wall or lean the wood against a wall or in a hallway corner.

2. Hanging wreaths. After you pick your color palettes, wrap ribbon around different sized embroidery hoops. You can finish with a bow or by gluing florals to one side and then hang on your wall or windows.

Drum Roll Please

Many of us tend to see ourselves through other people’s eyes. In one way or another, virtually everybody craves being admired. We live in a meritorious, American-Idol-type society that celebrates others when they’re deemed exceptional. Insert cancel culture here when they’re not.

There will also be people who have benefited from you who will act like they ‘did it’ or ‘made it’ without you. Hence, why some of us can only feel good about ourselves when we put others down.

The reality is that some people who live with trauma have a limited capacity to connect with others. The reality also being that the disconnect has nothing to do with you.

We all want to hear a drum roll beating for us when we’ve done something well, demonstrated a skill or talent, behaved generously or selflessly.

We need to learn how to also play that drum roll -for ourselves.

For a very long time, health care experts have suggested that you replace your morning cup of coffee with other drinks that will give you the energy boost you crave. While we know it’s tough to do that, if you know the reason behind it, you’ll think twice before you reach for your next cup of Joe.

1. Honey + lime in warm water. The benefits of each of these three ingredients have been talked about in the ancient medical texts, and are backed by science. This delicious and zesty combination not only perks you up but also does a lot of good for your health:

  • Reduces  inflammation
  • Clears up your skin, detoxifies
  • Helps build immunity so important these days to ward off colds + keep allergies at bay

Capresso rapid boil kettle for faster results.

2. Matcha Latte. Matcha contains the nutrients from the entire tea leaf, which results in a greater amount of caffeine and antioxidants than typically found In green tea.

  • Protects the liver
  • Promotes heart health
  • Aids in weight loss

Roesle Dual speed frother for best results.

3. Turmeric Latte. Turmeric contains Curcumin which is the ingredient filled with health benefits. It’s best to consume it with a meal that’s high in fat. In this case, with a teaspoon of coconut oil to get all the benefits.

  • Aids as an Anti-inflammatory
  • Increases brain function

Capresso automatic milk frother for best results as it heats, mixes and froths milk automatically.

4. OWYN (stands for Only What You Need) offers multiple plant-based protein drinks – one of my faves is its Cold Brew Coffee protein shake. Not only does this taste just like a cold brew with the same amount of caffeine, but it also is SUPER low in sugar (only 5g), provides you with 20g of plant protein with all allergen-friendly ingredients (Non-GMO, Vegan, Gluten- and Dairy-Free). PLUS it has superfood greens, and vegan omega-3s. Perfect for an on-the-go breakfast!

5. Green, white + black Teas. Studies have found that some teas may help fight cancer, heart disease, and diabetes; encourage weight loss; lower cholesterol; and bring about mental alertness. The Tea Disc is a new type of tea experience, by iLOLA, designed to bring the luxury and eco-consciousness of loose leaf tea to the convenience of your lifestyle. It is the first ever, compact Tea Disc made of artisanal loose leaf tea, pre-portioned and bound with a probiotic cellulose binding for the perfect steep, without the tea bag. The binding contains your daily dose of probiotics that dissolves as the tea leaves and botanicals unfurl in hot water – providing more nourishment for the body, as well as the soil when composted after use.

  • Prevent different types cancers
  • Prevent clogging of the arteries
  • Help burn fat
  • Counteract stress on the brain, reducing risks of neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases
  • Reduce risk of stroke
  • Improve cholesterol levels

You Are Not My Enemies But My Greatest Teachers

To sadness
Thank you for allowing me to feel
And to be connected to all that surrounds me

To anger
Thank you for reminding me of my strength
And my capacity to defend myself
And speak up for myself and others when necessary

To fear
Thank you for alerting me to potential danger
And for caring about my safety and security

To guilt
Thank you for revealing to me
What is in need of changing, fixing and mending in my life
So that I may respond accordingly

To dissatisfaction
Thank you for empowering me
To grow and evolve
And reach for greater heights
Beyond what I could previously do or be

To confusion
Thank you for showing me
Where I am in need of gaining greater understanding and clarity

And to regret
Thank you for providing a roadmap
To redirect me toward a greater destination
Through showing me what I don’t wish to do or repeat.

I see now
That you are not my enemies
But my greatest teachers
Guiding, assisting and uplifting me.

My Pepe, My Old Man, I Love You Forever 🦴

You gave me the best 17 years a dog mom could’ve ever asked for 💛 as hard as it is to let you go, I am at peace knowing you’re no longer in pain 🐾

Thank you to the team of Dr.’s at GSVH for making Pepe’s transition so peaceful + letting me love on him until his last breath 💛

Before you get a dog, you can’t quite imagine what living with one might be like; afterward, you can’t imagine living any other way 🐾💛
He was just the sweetest 🥹 If I could be half the person my dog is, I’d be twice the human I am 💛 until we meet again mi viejito 🐾
